Premium data on DataMarket.com

with one comment

An important step was made today at DataMarket.

Many of you know that on DataMarket.com you can already find vast amounts of statistics and numerical data from various public and open data providers. As a matter of fact more than 13 thousand data sets holding more than 100 million time series of more than 600 million facts – and growing rapidly.

And now we have launched our first batch of premium data sets. You could say that we just put the “market” in “DataMarket” ;)

We’ve partnered up with the good people at Xignite, offering some of their great financial data as subscription services on DataMarket.com. Need daily access to historical or futures prices of precious metals? Currency exchange rates between any of more than 140 currencies? Futures, swap rates or historical prices of various energy products? It’s now available for a fair monthly subscription price on DataMarket.com – and more to come in the next few days. Keep an eye on the data provider page for Xignite on DataMarket.com to track the progress.

And don’t worry: Our commitment to Open Data hasn’t budged. If the data is available from free sources under an open license it will remain free on DataMarket.com.

To learn more, you might want to check out our session on The Business of Open Data at Web 2.0 Expo tomorrow, where our CEO and founder – Hjalmar Gislason – will discuss what the wave of open data has brought us so far and how factors such as mobile apps, APIs, ads, pro subscriptions and premium data sales can play a role in business models where open data remains open and free of charge.
